Notes from The Pack
Our camps intro series shares a little more about the camps and lodges that make up The Pack and takes you a little deeper into each property.
Jackalberry Chobe is situated on the banks of the Chobe River under large Jackalberry trees (Diospyros mespiliformis) which give it its name, this lodge makes the most of the river views.
This wide uninterrupted and peaceful stretch of the river has many advantages over other spots on the famous river. Upstream of the lodge are impassable rapids that stop boat traffic from coming past which combined with the uninhabited opposite bank (being the banks of Impalila island) create a sense of calm and quiet not often experienced on the Chobe River whilst still being an easily accessible distance from the Chobe National Park and the town of Kasane.
Wide expansive shady decks offer multiple seating areas and locations for meals. The rim-flow pool looks onto the river and the surrounding loungers call you to relax and enjoy the river views even if you are not swimming. This is complemented by an open-air fireplace with surrounding seating out from under the trees and under the night sky. This keeps the safari atmosphere going beyond activities.
The rooms are elevated Meru tents on large decks. Well-sized verandas with comfortable morris chairs offer open-air seating. Inside the room, the large bed and mosquito net take center place with a desk, tea station and armchair creating comfort. The air conditioning ensures that regardless of the season your room will be comfortable and restful. A large double vanity tucked behind the headboard provides plenty of space and the ensuite bathroom includes both a walk-in shower and a bathtub. Room locations are river view (both full and partial) and bush view with the bush view rooms being accessible from a sand pathway.
Activities are offered by expert guides in the Chobe National Park by land or water. Experiencing wildlife sightings from a boat is a unique experience and many guests are lucky enough to witness an Elephant swimming across the river. Jackalberry guests have use of an exclusive pontoon boat which can take up to 20 guests allowing for comfortable and elegant game viewing. Game drives are offered in the park where you can follow the river and enjoy the expansive views of the Chobe floodplains whilst enjoying the wildlife that makes the park so well known. After a busy morning in the park retreating to the shady decks of the lodge and enjoying a lunch whilst the river quietly flows past feels wonderfully restorative. Additional activities include day trips to Victoria Falls and the chance to catch an elusive and fighting Tiger
Fish.
Jackalberry Chobe is located within proximity of multiple borders which makes it easily accessible from either Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls), Zambia (Livingstone), Namibia (Ngoma border by road or the river border) and of course the local airport of Kasane. This allows it to be a great start and settling point for a safari or a peaceful end to one.
